Cycling
Cycling is the process of introducing ammonia (fish poo) to the water as well as creating surface area for bacteria to grow (ie grow beds and bio-filters). The bacteria breaks down the ammonia turning it into nitrites then nitrates (aka plant food). The plants use the nitrites and nitrates thus filtering the water for the fish!
